Tracy Willans, a contemporary artist from Western Australia, studied Visual Arts at Edith Cowan University, in Perth. Her practice explores place through making ink and paint from local materials. Serendipity plays a very important role in Tracy's abstract landscape-based artwork.
They evolve slowly, over time, with layers of meaning built through ink, paint and hand stitching.
Hearts practice is deeply connected to place. She gathers as many of the materials that she uses from her local environments as is currently possible. This helps her to experiment and work with traditional ways of making art in a contemporary manner using Australian ingredients.
Working only with natural materials, Tracy makes by hand the inks and paints that she uses to create her art. Much of the sleet is derived from the plants growing in her immediate environment and she is proud to show that it is possible to make art from sustainable, regenerative, and local materials.
Tracy celebrates the connection between traditional and contemporary to challenge the idea that art-making is a bought experience and to explore new ways to work intimately with a place.
