Richard Stanley
oil painter
Richard Stanley is an award-winning realist landscape artist who has called Tasmania home since 1998. Based in the beautiful Huon Valley, Richard works from Stanley’s Studio Gallery in Cygnet, where he has established a long-standing career as a professional artist and resident of the region.
Working predominantly in oil on stretched canvas, Richard is inspired by Tasmania’s spectacular landscapes, waterways, mountains and coastline. His paintings are particularly influenced by the early morning and late afternoon light, when long shadows, subtle changes in colour and atmospheric conditions create a wonderful sense of depth and tranquillity.
Richard’s distinctive style is characterised by gentle blending of colour and tone, creating luminous skies, reflective waters and vast sunlit spaces. His aim is not simply to reproduce a landscape, but to capture the atmosphere and feeling of a place and invite the viewer to pause, explore the painting and experience a sense of peace and calm.
Richard’s passion for painting has been recognised through numerous awards, including consecutive First Prizes at the Geeveston Art Awards, the Major Prize at the Waterways exhibition in Salamanca, Hobart, as well as multiple People’s Choice and Mayor’s Choice awards.
Visitors to Stanley's Studio Gallery in Cygnet are invited to meet Richard, view his current collection and experience firsthand the studio environment in which he creates his Tasmanian landscapes.
