Petra Menzies is a multi-disciplinary artist who utilises many artistic mediums, some of which include printmaking, pyrography (hand burning artwork into wood), drawing, painting, ceramics and fibre crafts. She incorporates these styles under the umbrella of her business, ‘Disenchantia’. 

     Based in Dover, the primary focus of Petra’s work is to keep alive older methods of art and craft production such as screen printing, etching and lithography. She hand-spins artisan yarn on a collection of beautiful antique spinning wheels using natural fibers. She uses dyes from plants to infuse the fibers with natural hues that encompass the connection to nature. 

        Petra designs her own fabric that is printed on organic cotton and utilises the fabric to make a variety of items such as bags, aprons and garments. She also designs and hand screen prints her own fabric, T-shirts and bags. 

      The main body of her work revolves around the idea that it is natural, enjoyable and meaningful, it is something that is created with patience, dedication and love. This generates a calmness and serenity in her work in order to promote a sense of balance and harmony with nature.

        The main themes of her art and craft are the connection to nature and as a revivalist, channeling in on old techniques, emulating work from earlier times with a retrospective nostalgia. She incorporates these themes together with her own dark atmosphere and mystic imagery to create a unique experience.
