For Melissa Findlay, art is an evolving, experimental and exploratory journey. Using the mediums of watercolour, oil paint, acrylic, pastels and collage, she is inspired by the beauty of landscape, seascape, colour and light. Tasmanian scenery and built environment feature in much of Melissa’s work, as well as locations on her travels to such places as Scotland and the Mediterranean. 

Melissa says, “As I journey through my days I think in pictures, how to frame and compose a scene in front of me and what type of media might suit.” 

Largely self taught, she describes herself as an early career artist enjoying retirement after a public service career. After attending studio sessions at Archaica Schola and Jackson Studio in Hobart, Melissa has ventured into abstract landscape composition and developed skill in the use of pallet and light values. 

Melissa joined Robin Winter in their, ‘Where is Home?’ Exhibition as part of the 2025 Huon Valley Studio Art Trail at the Lovett Gallery in Cygnet.
