Lindsey Wherrett
potter & ceramicist
Lindsey Wherrett is a potter and ceramicist based in the Huon Valley, where she has worked from her studio for more than a decade. Lindsey’s practice is rooted in the making of functional objects, vessels, bowls, hand basins and tableware, that carry the quiet weight of careful thought and skilled hands.
For Lindsey, clay is both material and conversation. She works with stoneware bodies and glaze combinations that respond honestly to fire, developing surfaces with depth and variation built over years of close attention.
The landscape of southern Tasmania is a constant presence in her work, not as a literal subject but more as an atmosphere. The particular quality of light here, the textures of bark and stone, the way colour shifts through the seasons, these things find their way into the work without being named.
In recent years Lindsey has moved deliberately toward bespoke commissions for specific places and clients, a practice of designing and making for particular sites with a deep understanding of their intention. For her, this feels like the most honest expression of what ceramics can be, objects that belong somewhere, made by someone who understood where that was.

Come down the drive and park in front of the third shed, the big shiny one! Follow the path around the left hand side of the building to the big door at the end. Access is level but uneven.
