Het Oost

fibre artist

Het Oost is a contemporary fiber artist and musician based in Cygnet in the picturesque Huon Valley of Tasmania. Hailing from a matriarchal line of artists who have passed down their creative skills, artistic knowledge, and unique perspectives, Het has spent her life exploring creativity through art and music, finding and falling deeply in love with macrame and weaving during the journey.

Het examines the complexities of life by twisting ideas into textural works using a variety of ethically sourced or reclaimed fibres and materials. From small scale macrame pieces to large mixed fibre weavings and panels, her inspiration ignites from photographs she takes of natural places and emerges with improvisational stitching, knots, weaving, and intrinsic layering.

Her fibre art links ordinary, everyday fibres to creative visual pieces which enhance our homes and spaces allowing the rhythm of the twists and loops of the fibres to resonate with the ebbs and flows of life.
