Grace Moseley has been practising ceramics for nine years and her work is centred around the creation of functional vessels that are made to be used and enjoyed every day. Based in Glen Huon, Tasmania, she primarily works with wheel-thrown forms, creating mugs, cups and vases, with occasional hand-built pieces.

Grace is drawn to simple, contemporary forms and uses colour, texture and surface decoration to give each piece its own character. Bright, flowing glazes bring movement and vibrancy to her functional ware, while her decorated vases explore sgraffito as a way of creating bold, graphic surfaces.

For Grace, her surroundings are an important part of the creative process. Her studio overlooks her garden, with the Sleeping Beauty mountain range and Kunanyi beyond. She is continually inspired by the colours, textures, patterns and forms found in her garden and the natural landscape of the Huon Valley and these influences emerge in her work in both subtle and playful ways.

Grace says she loves the idea of handmade ceramics becoming part of someone’s daily life. A mug held each morning, a cup shared with a friend or flowers placed in a favourite vase can create a sense of connection and ritual.

Through her work, Grace aims to make ceramics that are functional, distinctive and joyful—objects that bring colour and beauty to the everyday.
