Fiona Baihn is a multi-disciplinary/versatile artist in the Huon Valley currently working on still life subjects. Starting as a self-taught hobbyist painting pet portraits through the1970’s, Fiona developed into an artist with American cartoon company Hanna Barbera, working on many popular animated cartoon series and tv commercials. After completing formal Art studies Fiona discovered a whole new world of artists tools and mediums and work in book illustrations using the cartoon history and humour. 

On coming to Tasmania in 2002, Fiona found an incredible wealth of inspiration. After a brief stint at cartooning for the Cygnet Classifieds, she started exploring many different mediums. Fiona now uses a range of media such as Archival inks, charcoal, graphite, oil pastel, pastel, and acrylics, just loving how art can record and communicate information. She strongly believes that versatility gives freedom for exploration and growth.

Fiona says the creative process is about seeking shapes, light and colour to communicate a work with personality and character, often guided by the texture on the paper and the medium in hand, not sure where it will take the work. She is excited to continue combining and experimenting with various mediums and maybe even finding a favourite medium eventually.

Fiona embraces the challenge of art shows and exhibitions as they bring social interaction with other artists. She enjoys being inspired by fellow artists and cultivates a sense of community among not only the artists, but all attending the trail.
