Emma Coombes is a Tasmanian photographic artist whose work draws on mythology, folklore, and the natural world to create atmospheric imagery that blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy. Influenced by the dramatic storytelling of Baroque painting and a deep connection to Tasmania's wild landscapes, her richly detailed images explore symbolism, enchantment, and the magic of our environment, inviting viewers into a world of mystery, wonder, and imagination.

Emma's work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Tasmania and is held in private collections across Australia. Her Tasmanian Still Life series reimagines the classical still life through a distinctly Tasmanian lens and was developed for exhibition at the heritage-listed Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart. 

Earlier bodies of work include ‘Untamed’ a celebration of Tasmania’s wild landscapes, exhibited at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery and ‘Deadwood’ a series that explored the fantasy, mythology, and enchantment suggested by the sculptural forms of bare trees.

Her work has received national and international recognition, including selection as a finalist in the 2026 Australian Photography Awards (Landscape) and winning the People's Vote Award (Professional Still Life), along with an Honourable Mention from the jury, in the 2026 ReFocus International Colour Photography Awards.

Through her photography, Emma celebrates the beauty, mystery, and magic of the natural world, creating enchanting works that cause collectors to pause, reflect, and discover something extraordinary within the familiar.
