Daren Lindsell

Ripples Art Farm

sculptor & furniture maker

Daren Lindsell is a sculptor and furniture maker who is fortunate to live on a farm at Petcheys Bay in the Huon Valley, Tasmania.  Living in a rural coastal area gives Daren the opportunity to be inspired by his natural surroundings and gather materials for his creative work.

Daren is attracted to the shape and texture of the materials which he gathers from his daily wanderings.  These bits and pieces, of wood, metals and stone then find a home in a stockpile in a paddock on the farm, until he sees something interesting in it.  Before he knows it an image begins to form in his head - Daren rarely plans anything on paper - and he gathers all the elements together and starts to assemble them in a way he thinks would be an interesting piece of furniture or sculpture.

As part of his creative practice, Daren is open to the original concept evolving throughout fabrication, as the materials often dictate what can be done and to the best aesthetic.

Living on a farm has given him the opportunity to explore creating large outdoor works, which Daren enjoys sharing with visitors to his property - Ripples Art Farm.
