Christine Richardson is a mixed media artists working with acrylics, water-colours, collage and inks to produce colourful impressionist and abstract modern botanical art.

Christine’s style originates from her childhood where she developed a fascination with all things botanical. This interest grew into an obsession with observing plants and flowers, collecting vintage floral porcelain, chinoiserie and watercolor botanical prints. Christine undertook China Painting and Watercolor classes whilst a University Student where Classic Art and Architecture were included as part of her Arts Degree. 

A career in Education and Training enabled Christine to incorporate art into her daily work practice, providing creative experiences for children and using historic paintings when instructing Tertiary students about the history of child rearing practices and social attitudes. Christine has also incorporated Art as therapy in supporting a mental health and disability program. 

Since moving to Tasmania 6 years ago from South Australia, Christine has been able to focus on exploring techniques and producing art of her own. Incorporating mixed media techniques, including collage, watercolors, and acrylics she produces playful, colorful layered interpretations of nature.

Her work is expressive and sometimes more abstract and her aim is to capture the impression of the colors, shapes, and delightful details rather than a literal representation. Christine’s wish is that her artwork brings joy and reflective pause into people’s homes and lives - she has often  received comments that her paintings have lifted the observer’s mood or even triggered a memory of a mother’s or grandmother’s garden. She loves discussing and sharing art techniques and materials with other artists and those who are interested.
